Does Florida Have Christmas Tree Farms?
The answer is a resounding YES! Despite having a warmer climate, evergreen trees do in fact grow here in Florida, and you CAN find them. Many animals like deer use evergreens for shelter and for medicine!
Naturally occurring evergreens are found in Florida in heavily wooded areas and along the coasts and streams. They are perfect to chop down and take home to decorate for Christmas!
That being said, Christmas tree farms in Florida are not all over the state, so depending on where you live, you may have to drive a little bit to cut your own tree. But the answer is yes, there are plenty of Floridian Christmas tree farms all over the state to visit. You may just have to drive a little bit!
Benefits To Cutting Your Own Christmas Tree
Contrary to popular belief, it is NOT harmful to forests when you cut down your own Christmas Tree.
Forests can get crowded, and cutting down evergreens can reduce overcrowding. Removing older trees from a heavily populated area will allow younger trees to develop vaster root systems and soak up more nutrients to grow tall.
And, at the end of the day, you aren’t just walking into the middle of the woods and cutting down any old Christmas tree. You are going to one of the many Christmas tree farms in Florida! Although these are real trees, they are not in the woods in a traditional sense as you will be going to a farm, not the middle of nowhere.
Cutting down your on Christmas tree also improves the habitat for wildlife in the area. When older trees are removed, more species can coexist on each layer of the habitat (the canopy, intermediate, forest floor) than compared to an area where every single tree is the same age.
Thinning evergreen forest populations can absolutely promote growth, and that is why there are so many Christmas tree farms in Florida! Packing the family into the car and taking a trip to cut down your own tree is a festive way to celebrate Christmas in Florida and make new memories.
